Hot and humid Kansas City before storm chances return. When will it rain?

Multiple rounds of showers and storms are possible this week as the Kansas City metro stays hot and muggy Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Morning storms began north of Kansas City overnight Tuesday and early Wednesday morning. Parts of the Kansas City metro got rain before sunrise Wednesday.

A chance for showers and thunderstorms returns Wednesday afternoon, but the best rain chances are expected later, the weather service forecast shows.

It will be a mostly sunny day on Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-90s, with heat index values near 100 degrees, according to meteorologists.

Overnight Wednesday and into early Thursday, a higher chance for rain returns to the metro. Showers then are most likely after 1 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain, the forecast shows.

A cool down in Kansas City?

Thursday, temperatures are forecast to cool down some, with the high expected to be near 80 degrees. Throughout the day, there will be another chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, with a 50% chance of rain, according to the forecast.

The greatest threat from the storms is damaging winds and heavy rain, meteorologists said in a forecast discussion.

Thursday night into Friday morning, there is another chance for rain.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the Kansas City area with multiple chances for storms. Heat index values could climb near 110 degrees next week, according to the advisory.
