Clouds to move into Kansas City area. Here’s when to expect rain and storms

Kansas City’s string of pleasant days continues Tuesday, but storms are looming in the forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

“One more dry day today, then rain chances return overnight and through Thursday,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion.

Light to calm winds are expected with temperatures climbing to around 75 degrees. Typically, Kansas City temperatures are 72 degrees this time of year.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the mid-50s in the metro overnight. Areas outside the metro might see temperatures dip into the 40s.

A weather pattern, called an Omega Block, is influencing Kansas City’s weather. This weather pattern gets its name because it consists of a high-pressure system flanked by low-pressure systems on either side, which create a shape resembling the Greek Letter “omega,” according to the weather service.

Storms in Texas to send clouds into Kansas City area

A strong storm in west Texas is expected to move east, causing clouds to spread into the Kansas City area by Tuesday night.

After sunset, rain chances increase, especially in the southwest portion of the Kansas City forecast region, the weather service said.

The rain continues into Wednesday, with areas south of Interstate 70 having the best chance for rain. The weather service said there’s a 40% to more than 75% chance for rain across the southern part of the forecast region on Wednesday.

A few non-severe thunderstorms might be possible, the weather service said. Rain chances continue through Thursday.

Modest rainfall is expected, with locations south of U.S. 50 will get around an inch of rain, while areas to the north will have less than a half inch, the weather service said.

Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 60s to low 70s on Wednesday and Thursday.
