Shooting at an Independence bar leaves one person injured, another in custody

A man was injured and another person is in custody after a shooting during a disturbance at an Independence restaurant and lounge, according to a police spokesman.

Officers responded to the Patio816, 19700 E. Valley View Parkway, to a reported shooting during an armed disturbance at about 8:45 p.m., Officer Bryan Conley with the Independence Police Department said.

Arriving officers found one man who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Conley said.

Police also took a person they called a “person of interest” into custody, Conley said.

The shooting occurred during Patio816’s Cinco de Mayo promotion.

The Independence Police Department’s criminal investigations unit is investigating the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
