Hundreds of flights have been canceled or delayed across the United States Monday as the winter storm moved east past Kansas City, leaving some travelers stranded at airports.

At Kansas City International Airport (MCI), more than 150 flights have been delayed or canceled, according to FlightAware data, which provides real-time flight tracking.

According to the data, as of 11:30 a.m., 67 flights arriving or departing Kansas City had been delayed and 84 flights were canceled Monday.

Although several flights from different airlines have been affected, the airport is open to flight operations. As of 11:30 a.m., flights are arriving to Kansas City with an average 8-minute delay Monday morning, according to FlightRadar24, a platform which displays real-time air traffic.

“Delta canceled several flights in advance of and due to the winter storm,” a Delta spokesperson said in an email. “We will resume service when the weather and operating conditions allow. Customers can continue to monitor and manage their flights through the Delta app.”

Airport officials did not immediately respond to The Star’s request for further details Monday, but Justin Meyer, a spokesman with the Kansas City Aviation Department, made posts on X about MCI’s first post-blizzard arrival and departure flights.

“KMCI’s first post-blizzard departure is airborne,” Meyer said in a post.

Kansas City saw blizzard conditions Sunday, which produced heavy snowfall and treacherous road conditions, further complicating travel in the area.

On Saturday, MCI had temporarily closed flight operations due to rapid ice accumulation. The airport reopened within two hours later after crews cleared and treated the runways and taxiways.

A ground stop was issued Monday morning at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago because of snow and ice through 9 a.m., NBC News reported.

Passengers should check their respective airlines Monday for specific flight information in and out of the Kansas City International Airport.
