Bone-chilling cold to sweep across Kansas City, plunging wind chills below zero
Icy cold weather will sweep into the Kansas City area as the massive winter storm that brought blizzard conditions moves out, giving the metro some of its coldest temperatures since last winter.
The National Weather Service issued a cold weather advisory for Kansas City and portions of Kansas and Missouri, warning that wind chills will drop as low as 15 degrees below zero.
The advisory is in effect from midnight Sunday until 11 a.m. Monday.
“The cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken,” the weather service said. “Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.”
People are urged to use caution while traveling and wear appropriate clothing, including hats and gloves.
Overnight temperatures are expected to plunge to around 4 degrees in Kansas City.
The frigid temperatures will linger in the metro, rising to 15 degrees on Monday before falling to around zero overnight.
Tuesday and Wednesday will not be much warmer. Daytime temperatures will be in the teens, plunging into the single digits overnight.
The bitterly cold wind chills will continue into Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
