With several inches of snow fallen Kansas City and the city devoting extra resources to getting the streets cleared, trash and recycling will not be picked up on Monday, and Tuesday.

Instead, homes with Monday and Tuesday collection days should save their waste for next week, Jan. 13-14. City spokesperson Sherae Honeycutt said those residents could put out two extra bags of waste those days without buying tags.

Trash collection is set to resume Wednesday on the normal schedule.

The delay will allow Kansas City to put more drivers on the snowplow routes and keep them safe from cold, according to a city news release.

Other Kansas City area city trash services

Kansas City, Kansas, will also not have trash pickup Tuesday. Homes with Monday and Tuesday collection are asked to hold onto their waste until the following week.

Some other area cities did not pick up trash Monday, delaying collection by one day for the rest of the week. They acknowledged that there still might be further delays later in the week.

GFL, which provides trash service to several area communities, including Mission, North Kansas City and Belton, suspended services Monday as well. But residents are asked to still put their trash out on their regularly scheduled day for the rest of the week.

Most other area cities use privately owned companies for trash pickup, so residents will have to check with their specific provider, like Waste Management or Republic Services, to see if there are delays or cancellations.
