Kansas City welcomed the new year with a rare blizzard. Residents in the metro area began preparations for the winter storm in earnest on Friday and by Saturday afternoon freezing rain left roads coated with a slick of ice.
Sunday blizzard conditions built, bringing sleet and snow to the region, according to a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
The Star asked readers to share photos and videos of the snow in their neighborhood while our photojournalists and reporters ventured out to show one biggest winter storms in Kansas City’s history. These are some of what we saw:
