A cold front moving into the Kansas City metro area Friday will bring below-freezing temperatures over the next few days.

Temperatures will be unseasonably cold over the weekend and into next week, with a “hard freeze” beginning Sunday as lows dip into the 20s, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

Sensitive plants should be brought inside Friday before freezing temperatures arrive. Kansas Citians should plan to break out their warm clothes and winter gear, especially since many won’t be ready for the sudden freezing weather.

On Friday, temperatures will drop throughout the day as the cold front pushes through. Highs around 68 degrees overnight Friday are expected to fall to a low around 37 degrees Friday night.

By Saturday, highs are expected to reach 45 degrees with morning and night lows around 34 degrees.

The anticipated hard freeze should roll in Sunday, with a low of 27 degrees and a high around 35 degrees.

Low temperatures will continue Monday with a low of 27 degrees and high of 40 degrees and drop further Tuesday with a low around 22 degrees and a high of 38 degrees.
