A small chance of showers and thunderstorms early Friday won’t provide much relief from a continuing heat wave in the Kansas City area, according to the National Weather Service.

While Thursday’s forecast will stay mostly sunny and hot with highs near 102 degrees that feel like 107, there will be a small chance of showers heading into the overnight hours.

There may be showers or thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Friday with lows overnight around 81 degrees. Meteorologists said there’s a 20% chance of precipitation across the metro area.

Hot temperatures will continue Friday with temperatures once again feeling like they hit about 107 degrees.

Winds Thursday and Friday could provide some relief from the high temperatures, reaching about 22 and 32 mph respectively.

With a heat advisory in effect until 9 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service advises people to stay inside as much as possible, stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in shade or air-conditioned areas if they have to work outside.
