Cold front rolls through Kansas City, sending temps tumbling, fueling thunderstorms
A cold front will send temperatures tumbling Tuesday and bring showers and thunderstorms to the Kansas City area, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“It’s going to be a pretty different day today compared to yesterday,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “We have a cold front on the move. It’s going to bring with it off-and-on rain and thunderstorms to our forecast and noticeably cooler temperatures.”
The temperatures tumbled overnight from a high of 88 degrees on Labor Day to the upper 50s by Tuesday morning, according to hourly observed weather reports at Kansas City International Airport from the National Weather Service.
“It’s going to be a day where the metro itself really struggles to warm back up, if we even do,” said Ritter, who added that highs will be in the lower 60s Tuesday afternoon.
Periodic rain showers are expected throughout the day Monday, along with a few embed thunderstorms, she said.
“There’s off-an-on rain for today, for this afternoon, for this evening and even for tomorrow,” Ritter said. “We are going to continue mentioning rain off-and-on throughout the next several days.”
It’s not going to rain constantly, she said, but rain chances persist into the early hours of Saturday.
The National Weather Service in Kansas City does not expect severe weather with Tuesday’s storms.
Highs are expected to remain in the 60s throughout the work week, which is far below the typical low 80s that Kansas City typically sees this time of year.
“Then we start to warm up and dry out as we head into the weekend,” Ritter said.
