Rain showers, thunderstorms likely as heat, humidity returns to Kansas City area

Rain showers and thunderstorms will be likely the next couple of days as heat and humidity returns to the Kansas City area, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

“We’re going to be back up in the middle 80s; it’s going to be more humid outside as well” Friday afternoon, said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.

“With the heat and humidity during the peak of the day, there may be some additional storms bubbling up as this afternoon,” she said. “But for the most part, if you don’t see rain this morning and you don’t see rain this afternoon, you just need to focus on the heat.”

The forecast calls for better chances of Friday morning rain south of Interstate 70, she said. During the afternoon, either side of the Kansas and Missouri state line could pickup some showers.

“Now tomorrow morning the models are indicating another batch of overnight, early morning storms,” Ritter said. “The better chances will be around and east of Kansas City and by mid-day we will be drying out again.”

Highs this weekend are expected to be in the 90s. When combined with the higher humidity, it will feel much hotter with the heat index over 100 degrees, Ritter said.

The National Weather Service in Kansas City said severe weather is not expected with the next round of storms.
