Thunderstorms may bring flash flooding to Kansas City as rain continues Thursday
Rain is expected to continue falling in the Kansas City metro area Thursday into Friday, bringing with it the possibility of flash flooding, according to FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith
“We are expecting more showers, more thunderstorms, and with an already saturated surface, anything that does fall, it has nowhere to go, so flash flooding, it is going to be a big concern for the late afternoon and early evening timeframe,” said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible mid-morning, especially north of Interstate 70, Bogowith said. As the day goes on, that rain will become more widespread in the metro area.
Evening commuters could be heading into heavy downpours Thursday as some areas may accumulate up to three more inches of rain over the next 24 hours.
“The rain chances, they linger around during the overnight hours and will still be with us into the early morning commute for Friday before things start to quiet down,” Bogowith said.
The weekend is expected to be much drier, with cooler-than-average temperatures for this time of year.
Saturday and Sunday will likely have high temperatures in the low 80s, with overnight lows in the 60s, Bogowith said.
There is a slim chance for showers early Sunday because of an incoming cold front, but otherwise, “expect drier, brighter conditions into early next week,” she said.
