Rain, cooler temperatures to extend into weekend as Kansas City gets summer respite

After calm and quiet weather Tuesday evening, rain and possible thunderstorms return to the forecast for the Kansas City area, according to FOX4 meteorologist Joe Lauria.

“We are going to have more rain,” said Lauria, who provides weather updates to The Star. “Maybe more widespread, a little bit heavier in the area. I don’t think it’s going to rain all day. There will be hours at a time where it is not raining tomorrow.”

Temperatures on Wednesday are expected to run about 10 degrees below average for this time of the year. The cool temperatures should last for the next couple of days.

A weather system coming from the Rocky Mountain region is expected to produce rain and will move into the Kansas City area Wednesday. The rain chances will continue into Thursday, Lauria said.

“We will probably have some rain or some scattered showers around before lunchtime and then maybe a little lull and then as the sun comes back out, the atmosphere gets unstable again and we start to spark off some additional thunderstorms in random fashion,” he said.

Over the next several days, some areas of Kansas City could see between 1-4 inches of rain. Some of those heavy rain areas could experience some flash flooding.

Temperatures will be around 70 degrees Wednesday morning and then climb to about 80 degrees at lunchtime. Cooler weather is expected for the afternoon as rain chances increase.

“We will stay cool all the way into the weekend,” Lauria said.
