Sunshine, warm weather to prevail across Kansas City before storms return late Monday
Grab those sunglasses and sunscreen bottles if you’re headed outside, as ample sunshine will send afternoon highs into the upper 60s Sunday, said FOX4 meteorologist Alex Countee.
“As we move throughout this afternoon, we are still holding onto to sunshine and high temperatures right around 67 degrees,” said Countee, who provides weather updates to The Star. “We will still be bothered by that wind coming out of the west and the gusts can be anywhere from about 30 to 35 mph.”
The winds, however, are expected to calm in the afternoon and overnight, he said.
Highs on Monday are expected to climb back into the upper 60s.
“We are going to be tracking our next round of rain heading for the southwestern counties very late tomorrow, spreading across the southern half of the viewing area Monday night into Tuesday morning,” Countee said.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
The storms are expected to fade away by the afternoon, leaving behind a pretty good end of the day for Tuesday, he said.
“Dry on Wednesday with another slight chance for scattered sprinkles returns here and there on Thursday, before we head toward a drier, but cooler weekend,” Countee said.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said no severe weather is expected with the light rain that is possible Tuesday morning. The rains should remain mainly south of Interstate 70.
People should expect nice spring-like weather most of the week.
