Scattered rain showers with heavy downpours expected as Kansas City faces soggy week
Keep that rain gear handy because this week will be soggy, with rain showers and heavy downpours possible in Kansas City, according to FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.
“For the day today (Monday), expect to see scattered rain showers off and on — have rain gear ready to go,” said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill urged drivers to drive safely as rain will continue for the morning commute.
“As we move along into your Tuesday, we will catch a break from the rain but the active period will be continuing Wednesday and Thursday,” Bogowith said.
Chances for scattered rain showers, however, will be lower for some on those days, she said.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
A closer look at the forecast
Rain is expected throughout the day Monday with heavier downpours expected, Bogowith said.
“When all is said and down a little later on this evening as things wind down for this evening commute, we will probably be left with anywhere between 1 to 1 1/2 inches of the rainfall,” Bogowith said.
High temperatures this week are expected to be in the upper 50s and 60s, which is above the normal of 52 degrees for this time of year in Kansas City, according to the National Weather Service.
The first wave of this week’s rain is expected to move out Monday night, giving the metro a break Tuesday.
“We could have a few morning showers in here for your Wednesday; some late day rain moving in for Thursday as temperatures will be warming out of the 50s into the 60s.”
A cold front is expected to move into the Kansas City overnight Thursday into Friday morning, sending temperatures tumbling. The overnight low on Thursday is expected to drop into the 30s.
The chance for rain returns late Friday into Saturday.
“That’s when our numbers will take the biggest hit,” Bogowith said.
