Cold rain continues Monday in Kansas City, with snow possible starting Tuesday

Cold rain showers will continue off-and-on in the Kansas City metro area throughout the day Monday and into the evening commute, said FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.

“We will have some lulls at times and at other times we will have some moderate to heavy downpours of rain that will likely continue and carry over into the evening commute,” said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star.

Temperatures are expected to stay in the 40s Monday before dropping to 30 degrees overnight. Some locations will be soggy overnight Monday, she said.

The weather may get worse Tuesday, as highs are expected to reach only the mid-30s.

“We will have more of a transition to a wintry mix that could potentially lead us into some very slushy snow that does develop late in the day on Tuesday winding down by early Wednesday morning,” Bogowith said. “Some of you could see maybe a trace up to 1 or 2 slushy inches of snowfall when all is said and done.”

How we did this story

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

Once this winter storm system moves out of the area, temperatures will remain cold, with highs reaching only the 30s. The normal high for this time of year in Kansas City is the upper 40s.

“We start to see major improvements heading into the upcoming weekend,” Bogowith said.

Highs on Sunday will be close to 60 degrees, she said.
