Cold rain to make Monday soggy in Kansas City, with snow possible Tuesday

The work week in Kansas City will get off to a cold, soggy and possibly slushy start as a winter storm moves through the area, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

“Throughout the day today (Monday), we are going to have a cold rainy forecast where we’re basically going to fluctuate around 40 degrees,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.

But it’s going to feel colder because of the winds that will be blowing out of the north and east for most of the day, Ritter said.

“We will have periods of rain, periods of clouds and then more rain — so just intervals of soggy conditions throughout the day,” Ritter said.

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

Areas to the north of Kansas City will likely see a wintry mix of rain and snow Monday.

“Speaking of wintry mix, all of our (forecast) models have cranked out some rain transitioning to snow for your Tuesday, exiting on Wednesday, especially early in the morning, and leaving us with a colder middle part of the week,” Ritter said.

Tuesday’s highs are expected to be in the upper 30s.

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said less than an inch of snow is expected for the Kansas City metro. Higher amounts are expected across northeast Missouri.

Mid-week temperatures are expected to be in the 30s, Ritter said. That will be below the upper 40s that’s typical for this time of year in Kansas City.

A gradual warm up is expected this weekend, she said.
