Speeding car crashes into parked vehicles, flips over Saturday in Kansas City
Update: An earlier version of this story misstated when the wreck occurred. It occurred on Saturday.
A speeding car crashed into several parked vehicles and flipped over early Saturday in Kansas City, leaving one person injured, police said.
Officers on patrol first spotted the speeding car about 1:54 a.m. near 39th Street and Tracy Avenue, according to the Kansas City Police Department. The officers tried to stop a silver Nissan that was speeding with one headlight out and possible following another vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, police said.
As officers turned on their overhead lights and sirens, the car turned west on 41st Street and police disregarded the chase, turning off their emergency equipment.
Police then found the car near 41st and Charlotte streets. It had apparently crashed into several parked vehicles and flipped onto its roof.
When officers approached, the car was unoccupied. Witnesses told police several occupants, possibly four, had run from the scene.
Police found two people a block west of the crash. A male juvenile, police said, appeared to be injured and was taken to a hospital.
A female who was not injured was released to family members.
The other occupants of the car were not found, even after officers conducted an “extensive” canvass of the area, police said.
It remained unclear who was driving the car. A gun was found in the back seat, police said.
