Sub-zero temps expected early Friday in KC. Other areas could see temps close to -10
Kansas Citians will likely be waking up to sub-zero temperatures early Friday morning as the cold weather continues, according to FOX4 meteorologist Joe Lauria.
“Skies across the area are clear, we’ve got snow on the ground, we’ve got a bitterly cold air mass in place. During the afternoon (Thursday) it only made it up into the teens,” Lauria said in a weather update to The Star. “It’s the perfect set up for a nasty, cold night.”
On the upside, it won’t be as windy as it was overnight, but Lauria says to be prepared for temperatures below zero early Friday.
According to the forecast, by about 6 a.m. Friday, temperatures in Kansas City area could be around -2 to -5 degrees. Some outlying areas on the Missouri side could see temperatures close to -10.
Temperatures will be in the upper 20s to the low 30s in the afternoon hours.
The arctic air will start to move away over the weekend, Lauria said, and temperatures are expected to warm up to the 40s and 50s for Saturday and Sunday.
The cold weather may return in the middle of next week with another chance of arctic air moving into the region Wednesday and Thursday.
