Snow will be falling on Kansas City when the Super Bowl parade starts, forecast says
Snow and bitter chills await fans heading to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade and rally Wednesday in downtown Kansas City, according to the latest forecast.
“We do anticipate snow to begin accumulating as we head into parade day,” said FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star.
“Wednesday morning at 7 a.m., snow showers begin to fall here in Kansas City — right in the heart of the morning commute,” she said. “If you are trying to get downtown for the big parade, plan on packing your patience and some extra travel times. You will need it.”
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
The heaviest snow appears on track to pass to the southeast of Kansas City — at least for now, Bogowith said.
“We will still see moderate snow showers ongoing here in the metro area when the parade kicks off at 11:30 a.m.,” she said. “Those snow showers are likely to continue right on into Wednesday afternoon and evening before things finally start to wind down, moving out by early Thursday morning.”
Between 1 and 3 inches of snow is expected across the Kansas City metro area. Areas north of the metro will see less snow. Areas south and east of Kansas City can expect between 3 and 6 inches of snow.
“There will be snow on the ground already before the parade even kicks off,” Bogowith said.
Temperatures will be in the 20s Wednesday, but when you factor in the wind, it will feel more like the teens.
“Lots of layers, waterproof layers, snow boots — you will need it all for the parade on Wednesday,” Bogowith said.
