‘Snow knocking on our doorsteps’ as winter storm system approaches Kansas City
A winter storm system approaching Kansas City from the west will likely bring snow to the metro overnight, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“Snow is knocking on our doorsteps later this evening,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “It’s going to be arriving here sometime after the sun goes down, likely closer to midnight.”
The storm system was in western Kansas early Tuesday and was expected roll across the state into eastern Kansas and western Missouri during the evening hours, Ritter said.
“It is going to bring with it, as we head through the day, a better chance for measurable snow especially tomorrow morning,” Ritter said.
Most in the Kansas City area will see anywhere between a dusting to an inch of snow, she said. Higher snowfall totals will be to the south and east of Kansas City, where between 1 to 2 inches of snow is possible.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said the snow could cause roads to be slick during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commute.
While snow is in the forecast, there’s a warm-up coming this weekend. Temperatures will be in the 30s Tuesday through Thursday. Highs are expected to reach into the 40s Friday and Saturday.
Temperatures in the 60s are expected Sunday and Monday.
