Winter storm warning: Prepare for icy road conditions in KC
A winter storm moving into the Kansas City area Friday evening will create icy road conditions, according to FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.
As temperatures drop and rain showers continue throughout the evening, road conditions are likely to deteriorate, said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star.
Temperatures will drop enough to cause freezing rain in the Kansas City area just after sunset, around 6 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain had already begun in northwest Kansas and northwest Missouri Friday morning.
The Kansas City International Airport has reported several flight cancellations as well as delays. Multiple flights that were set to take off from KCI have been delayed as heavy freezing rain has made it difficult for airlines to deice the airplanes, the airport said in a Twitter post.
It’s likely to snow throughout the day on Saturday, Bogowith said. Kansas City could see around 3 to 6 inches of snow. Areas northwest of the metro could see 4 to 8 inches of snow, while areas southeast could see a little less, she said.
For the Chiefs game on Sunday, Bogowith said there is a chance of light snow showers. By the 2:05 p.m. kickoff, temperatures should reach about 30 degrees.
