Multiple flight cancellations, delays reported at KCI ahead of winter storm

Some flights have been canceled or delayed ahead of a winter storm that is expected to bring freezing rain, sleet and snow to the Kansas City area.

The Kansas City International Airport has reported several cancellations for Saturday for flights that were scheduled to depart or arrive at the airport in the morning. Travelers may check that status of their flight online.

The trouble began late Friday afternoon as heavy rain drenched Kansas City.

By Friday evening, multiple flights that were set to take off from KCI were delayed. The airport tweeted that heavy freezing rain had made it difficult for airlines to deice the airplanes.

Crews are using a combination of granular deicing agents with sand as well as liquid to deice the planes, KCI said in a post explaining its ice and snow removal process.
