Ho-ho-hot? Temperatures on Christmas Day in Kansas City could climb to record high

Unseasonably warm temperatures approaching record highs are expected for Christmas Day. But cooler weather, rain and possibly light snow are the forecast for later this week, according to FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.

“For today and into your Christmas holiday on Wednesday, we will be enjoying temperatures running 20 to 25 degrees above average,” Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star, said Tuesday.

“Lower 60s this afternoon, middle 60s for Christmas Day and by Thursday I think that will be our transition day,” she said.

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has the high temperature on Wednesday reaching 64 degrees, which would be the fourth warmest Christmas in Kansas City. The record high is 67 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to start to tumble into the 50s as a new weather system enters the area.

“We will continue the free fall into the upcoming weekend as we track our next weather system,” Bogowith said.

Clouds are expected on Friday, and rain is in the overnight forecast into Saturday.

“Pretty soggy conditions are expected, but temperatures will stay above the freezing mark,” she said. “We could see a changeover from that cold rain to a little light snow possible as we enter the early start of next week.”
