A Kansas City man drowned after he entered the Lake of the Ozarks Saturday night and did not resurface, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The incident happened July 4 at Lick Beach Cove in Morgan County’s Rocky Mount area, according to the highway patrol’s incident report.

The unidentified 25-year-old Kansas City man entered the Lake of the Ozarks water without a life jacket, the highway patrol reported. The man “did not resurface,” according to the report.

Though investigators estimate the man died at about 9:45 p.m. on Independence Day, his body was not found until about 9:30 a.m. the next morning, the patrol recorded.

The death marked the fourth fatal drowning on the Lake of the Ozarks in 2026, according to the patrol’s data.
