A driver was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital with serious injuries after an Independence Day single-vehicle crash in south Kansas City late Saturday morning, according to police.

The crash occurred at about 11:45 a.m. on July 4, according to an incident report shared by Sgt. Phil DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

The teen motorist of a Ford F-150 was driving on Blue Parkway, also known as Missouri 350, just north of Lee’s Summit and west of Unity Village, according to police.

At a curve in the road, the truck exited the pavement to the left and hit a light pole. The vehicle came to a stop partially off the road.

DiMartino shared the victim is a teenager, but did not provide an exact age.
