A Missouri lottery player decided to listen to his wife about getting scratch tickets, and now he is $100,000 richer.

Missouri Lottery reported April 1 that the winning ticket came from a Kansas City gas station, The Station, 8050 N. Brighton Ave. The gas station held one of the five top prizes offered in the $100,000 Taxes Paid Scratchers game.

“I was hanging out with my wife and kids, and she said, ‘We should get some Scratchers,’” the anonymous winner said to Missouri Lottery. “So, I went and picked up four.”

There are currently two top-prize winning tickets that have been unclaimed.

Missouri Lottery is required to withhold a 4% Missouri state tax on prizes of $600.01 or more, as well as a 24% federal tax for prizes of more than $5,000. Depending on their personal income, winners may owe additional taxes.

According to Missouri Lottery, retailers that sell winning Scratcher and Draw Games tickets receive a bonus that equals 2% of the prize up to $600 by meeting certain game and sales criteria.

In the 2025 fiscal year, Clay County players won over $39.3 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, while retailers received more than $2.9 million in commissions and bonuses.
