Kansas City-area teachers win $50,000 Powerball prize: ‘Kind of unbelievable’

A teacher in the Kansas City area won big on a Powerball ticket, but more than one person will take part in the winnings.

The ticket was purchased for the Dec. 20, 2025, Powerball drawing — which offered a $1.5 billion jackpot — at Casey’s, 1202 N. 7 Highway, in Blue Springs.

The winning numbers for the drawing were 4, 5, 28, 52 and 69 with a Powerball number of 20. The teacher’s ticket matched four out of five white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball number.

“It was kind of unbelievable. It took a minute to sink in,” the winner said in a statement.

The winner is part of a group of 27 KC-area teachers who play together when the jackpot gets high. The prize that was claimed Thursday, Jan. 29, will be split amongst everyone in the group, the winner told Missouri Lottery.

Missouri Lottery players in Jackson County won more than $96.8 million in prize and more than $31.6 million in proceeds went to education programs in the county, according to Missouri Lottery.
