JAN. 30, 2023 UPDATE: A fourth lot, No. 20301CF, has been added.
Three lots of Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Spray SPF 30 sunscreen are the latest spray products to be recalled for the presence of benzene, a human carcinogen.
“An internal review found that some samples of the product contained trace levels of benzene,” stated the recall notice written by Edgewell Personal Care Company and posted to the FDA site. “While benzene is not an ingredient in any Banana Boat products, the review showed that unexpected levels of benzene came from the propellant that sprays the product out of the can.”
This covers lot Nos. 20016AF, expiration December 2022; 20084BF, expiration February 2023; and 21139AF, expiration April 2024.
Return the spray to the store of purchase for a full refund. If that’s not possible, you can contact Edgewell online or at 888-686-3988, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Eastern time. That’s also the number to call for questions about this recall.
If this or any drug causes a problem, after notifying a medical professional let the FDA know via its MedWatch Adverse Event page or by filling out a form you can get by calling 800-332-1088. Then notify the manufacturer.
