‘A good person, period’: Paul Wrabec, chair of the Jackson County Democrats, has died
Paul J. Wrabec, chairman of the Jackson County Democratic Party, died Wednesday. He was 64.
Kansas City Democrats paid tribute to him on social media.
“Paul loved his family. Paul loved Sugar Creek and Jackson County. And, even in lean times, Paul loved being a Democrat,” Mayor Quinton Lucas wrote. “He brought joy to every campaign, event, or issue he was involved in. I’ll miss his smile, his style, and his commitment.”
Justice Horn, who is running to represent Jackson County’s 1st District, said on Twitter that Wrabec championed his pursuit of student government while he was at UMKC, calling him “a person whose belief in me helped me believe in myself.”
Wrabec “worked tirelessly for the causes he held dear and for folks who needed a fighter,” Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, who formerly served as chair of the Missouri Democratic Party, wrote on Twitter.
Randy Dunn, executive director of the Missouri Democratic Party, said Wrabec’s influence stretched across the state, calling his death a far-reaching loss.
“Paul was not only a good democrat and union man, he was just a good person, period,” Dunn wrote. “He was a strong and trusted voice, not just in Kansas City, but across the state.”
Wrabec also ran Vinograd Winery in Sugar Creek with his family.
