One man is dead and another man was arrested after police say an argument over grass clippings led to a 22-year-old landscaper being fatally shot.

Travis Jackson, 36, is charged with two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and discharging a firearm.

On Sept. 18, Dunham’s Lawn Care worker Tanner Staggs was working at a home in Dayton when an argument broke out between him and his client’s neighbor, WDTN reported. Then, shots were fired.

“We got a guy shot in the heart,” a 911 caller said, according to WKEF.

When the dispatcher asked the caller if they knew what led to the shooting, the caller replied, “Yeah, it was an argu- it was an argument over grass clippings on a car,” WKEF reported.

Staggs was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, WDTN reported.

Jackson told police he shot Staggs and showed them where the gun was, Dayton Daily News reported.

“He had shot towards the house, where the landscapers were on the sidewalk, and he was in the street,” Gus Sinclair told WHIO. “This guy lost his life over nothing.”

After speaking with witnesses, investigators determined Jackson came out of his home and began arguing with Staggs over mud and grass on his vehicle, court records said, according to Dayton Daily News.

“Tanner always had a positive attitude, was a good team player, got along well with others, was patient and understanding, and a leader among our crew. He was a young man with so much life ahead of him. His passing leaves an unimaginable void for his loved ones, our team, and the entire landscaping community,” Dunham’s Lawn Care LLC said in a Facebook post.

Tanner had recently turned 22 “with so much life ahead of him,” a GoFundMe page said. He played baseball, loved animals and “was one of the most hardworking, strong-willed, caring individuals,” the page said.
