17-year-old found face down in water after boat crash, Arizona cops say
A 17-year-old boy is dead after he was involved in a boat crash, according to Arizona authorities.
On June 28, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety responded to Lake Havasu for reports of a person in the water not breathing, according to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived, the 17-year-old boy from California was on shore getting CPR, the sheriff’s office said.
The teen had been on a personal watercraft by himself when his family, who was on shore, lost sight of him, authorities said.
A boater passing by later found him wearing a life jacket, floating face-down in the water, according to deputies. That’s when he was pulled to shore by people in the area and they began administering CPR.
The teen was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.
Deputies said the crash is being investigated and that “evidence on scene suggests that this was a single vessel crash.”
