Man angry over ex hugging another man at bar shoots her to death, Texas cops say
A woman was shot to death by her ex-boyfriend after he saw her hugging another man at a Texas bar, police say.
Jorge Saldana-Gonzalez, 44, was arrested on a murder charge following the Saturday, April 5, shooting at Sandra’s Bar, on Alamo’s east side, according to a criminal complaint filed in Hidalgo County.
An officer with the Alamo Police Department responded to a 911 call from the bar at 10:55 p.m. and arrived to find a woman in the parking lot, crying and holding Ana Maria Davila in her arms, investigators said.
Davila was either dead or dying when the officer showed up, having been shot twice in the upper torso, documents read. The woman holding her said she heard gunshots and when she went to investigate, she found Davila on the ground and not moving.
After shots rang out, a man was seen leaving the scene in a pickup truck, which police figured out belonged to Saldana-Gonzalez. Investigators went to his home and arrested him, police said.
In an interview, Saldana-Gonzalez told police he killed Davila, that he’d been angry after seeing her hug a man at Sandra’s Bar, documents read. Though she was his ex-girlfriend, he “thought they were fixing the relationship,” so he asked her to come outside with him so they could talk.
She agreed and they exited the bar, police said, but their talk quickly devolved into an argument.
“The first shot was an accident,” he said, according to police. But then he shot her again.
He fled the scene and went home, ditching the handgun along the way, though he told police he’s not sure where he threw it, documents said.
Saldana-Gonzalez is a Hidalgo County employee, MySanAntonio.com reported. During an initial court hearing on April 6, a judge denied him bond, the outlet reported.
Alamo is a roughly 240-mile drive south from San Antonio.
