Man shoots ex and new boyfriend in murder-suicide at car meet, Texas cops say

Two people are dead and one wounded after a murder-suicide at a car meetup, Texas police told news outlets.

Police said a man found his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend at an unauthorized car meet in a parking lot on Houston’s northwest side and opened fire on them, KTRK reported. The shooting happened the evening of Monday, April 7, according to police.

A deputy with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office heard gunshots while driving near the event — which authorities described as a parking lot takeover — and was the first to respond to the scene, police told the station.

The 26-year-old man, who police have not publicly identified, shot his ex multiple times, then chased her new boyfriend across the lot and shot him in the back as he tried to run away, the Houston Chronicle reported, citing police.

Then he went back to where he’d shot his ex and fired several more rounds at her before he died by suicide, police told the outlet.

The woman and her ex were pronounced dead at the scene, but her new boyfriend was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, police told KPRC.

Investigators haven’t shared the names of the victims, who they believe were in their 20s, the station reported.
