Man holding his baby on front porch is killed as 25 gunshots are fired, PA cops say
A 25-year-old man was shot and killed as he held his baby on the front porch of his home, according to Pennsylvania police and news reports.
Twenty-five gunshots were reportedly fired in the Sept. 4 shooting in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, police said.
Officers said they were fired by two gunmen who approached the home while on a red scooter, WTXF reported.
The father was on the stoop of the home holding his 1-year-old son as he was fired upon, police told WPVI. He was struck in the head and torso, police said.
The victim, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, died at a hospital shortly after the shooting, according to police.
Police said an investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. A motive for the shooting is unclear.
The man’s baby, WCAU reported, was grazed by the gunfire and was treated at a hospital. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said the father protected the child by pushing him onto the ground.
“It was really amazing that with 25 shots fired and his father being hit multiple times that the child is in stable — even good — condition with just some graze wounds to his legs,” Small told WCAU. “It’s amazing that that child survived.”
