Missing 3-year-old dies after being pulled from pond at Pennsylvania park, cops say
A 3-year-old boy died after he was found unresponsive in a pond at a Pennsylvania park, according to police and news reports.
The incident occurred on Labor Day at Wilson Farm Park in Tredyffrin Township, police said.
Officers were dispatched to the Chester County park around 7 p.m. for a report of a missing child, according to police. The child had wandered off from the supervision of his nanny, police said.
The boy was discovered unresponsive in a pond near the park’s playground, police told WCAU. The pond was described by Tredyffrin Township Police Captain Tyler Moyer as “decorative” and not open for swimming and fishing.
Officers pulled the boy from the pond within five minutes of their arrival, according to WTXF. He died after being taken to a King of Prussia hospital, police said.
The boy’s identity has not been publicly released as the morning of Sept. 3.
Police said an investigation is underway to determine how the boy ended up in the water.
“On behalf of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department, we are deeply saddened by this tragic event and we send our deepest condolences to the child’s family,” police said.
Tredyffrin Township is about a 25-mile drive northwest from Philadelphia.
