Garbage truck smashes through side of home while three people are inside, Utah cops say
A garbage truck smashed through the side of a Utah home while three people were inside, authorities said.
Officers were sent to the home shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, the Spanish Fork Police Department said in a news release.
Photos show the garbage truck crashed into the home’s attached garage, with a broken fence at its side and a downed basketball hoop behind the truck.
“Spanish Fork Police officers arrived and had to enter the home where the driver of the garbage truck was still inside the cab,” the news release said.
Officers got the unconscious driver out of the truck.
The 55-year-old man was taken to a hospital with “non-life threatening injuries,” Lt. Cory Slaymaker said in an email to McClatchy News.
The three adults inside the home were not hurt, police said, but the building had “severe structural damage.”
While police said they are still investigating, they believe the driver had a “medical incident” that caused the crash.
Spanish Fork is about 50 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
