Man wins big jackpot with SC scratch-off lottery ticket — and heads straight to work
Would a jackpot in the lottery convince you to quit your job? For a South Carolina man, his six-figure prize wasn’t enough.
“I still went to work that day and the next day too,” he told lottery officials. “It’s not enough to retire.”
The man had stopped by the VILMA Inc. convenience store in Spartanburg to pick up a drink and a lottery ticket before work, he told lottery officials in a June 6 news release.
When he got to his car, he scratched off his Money Bag Bonus ticket and realized he’d won $300,000.
“It was awesome,” he told lottery officials.
The man rushed back into the store in shock to double-check the prize with the clerk. Once he got confirmation that it was real, he hopped back in his car and went to work, lottery officials said.
Even though the man plans to keep his job, he told lottery officials the prize helped him inch closer to retirement.
The odds of winning $300,000 in the Money Bags Bonus game are 1 in 900,000, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
VILMA Inc. got a $3,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, according to lottery officials.
Spartanburg is about 93 miles northwest of Columbia.
