A man in South Carolina got quite the shock when he went to cash in his mysterious lottery ticket at the headquarters in Columbia.
He knew that he won more than $500 but couldn’t begin to guess how big his prize would be, he told lottery officials in June 1 news release.
When he arrived to cash in his Powerball ticket, lottery officials said they realized the man didn’t know how much he had won, and staff let him scan his ticket himself.

“It was an unforgettable moment,” the man, who wasn’t publicly identified, told lottery officials. “Wow. I really had no idea how much I won.”
The winner bought his lucky Powerball with Double Play at the Publix in Pelham Road in Greenville, lottery officials said. His ticket matched the first five numbers in the drawing.
“I was shocked,” he said. “I just stared at the amount.”
The Publix received a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, according to lottery officials .
The odds of winning $500,000 in the Powerball with Double Play are 1 in 11,688,054, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
Greenville is about 104 miles northwest of Columbia.
