Lucinda Britt’s birth year was a lucky number combination for her in the Virginia Lottery. Not once, or twice, but 41 times.

Britt, a resident of Norfolk, bought dozens of tickets for a single Virginia Lottery Pick 4 drawing. She used her birth year as the number combination for each ticket — 1-9-7-2, lottery officials said in a May 18 news release.

Her birth year was the winning combination in the May 3 drawing, according to lottery officials.

“I was shocked!” Britt told lottery officials. “I was so happy my leg was shaking!”

Britt won the top prize of $5,000 on 36 tickets and $2,500 on five that she wagered 50/50 on, lottery officials said.

Her winnings added up to $193,000, according to lottery officials.

Now, Britt plans to pay off her mortgage, she told lottery officials.

In 2016, Britt split a $1 million prize with her best friend, so this wasn’t her first taste of Virginia Lottery victory, according to officials.

The odds of matching the numbers and order combination in the Pick 4 drawing are 1 in 10,000, according to the Virginia Lottery.
