Hikers find human remains in remote Colorado spot. They could have been there a year
Hikers discovered human remains in a remote spot in Colorado, police told news outlets. They may have been there for up to a year.
Deputies recovered the remains Sunday, March 13, after they were found in a remote part of Clear Creek Canyon, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.
The remains were skeletal, and the death isn’t believed to be suspicious, according to the sheriff’s office. The coroner will identify the human remains and determine a cause and manner of death.
The skeletal remains appeared to be “old,” and could have been there for up to a year, deputies told 9 News.
“We don’t know the circumstances,” spokeswoman Jenny Fulton told The Denver Post. “We’re not treating it as a homicide at this point, it could be an accidental death, a suicide, a medical issue.”
Clear Creek Canyon is about 6 miles north of Denver.
