KC teen serving murder sentence gets 30 years for Waffle House robbery
A Kansas City teen already serving a prison term for a fatal shooting was sentenced this week to 30 years in prison for an armed robbery in which he stole a cell phone at a Waffle House, court records show.
Judge Shane T. Alexander handed down the sentence in Clay County Circuit Court after 18-year-old Undrellius K. Fleck pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree robbery. A count of armed criminal action was dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Alexander ordered the robbery sentence to run concurrently with the sentence in the fatal shooting case.
According to court documents, officers responded about 10:20 p.m. Aug. 21 to investigate a report of an armed robbery at the Waffle House at 4404 N. Antioch Road.
A victim told police that he was exiting the restaurant when Fleck ran at him with a handgun. The victim ran back inside and stood behind a server. Fleck chased after him and pointed the gun at the victim, demanding his cellphone.
The victim told police he feared for his life and handed his cell phone over. Fleck then left the restaurant.
The server gave a similar account, in which she said Fleck had a black handgun with a light attachment pointed at her chest. She said the light was on, and she could see it across her chest.
During the robbery, she said Fleck yelled “Give me your phone,” “Hurry up” and “I’ll shoot you.”
No one was injured in the robbery, which was caught on surveillance footage.
Just over two weeks later, Fleck was involved in a deadly shooting of Kenneth Hutt, 23, about 11:25 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the Snap & Go convenience store in the 8200 block of Banister Road.
Prosecutors charged Fleck and 18-year-old Jordan Vasquez each with one count of second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and first-degree robbery.
Fleck, who was 17 at the time of the crimes, was certified to stand trial as an adult in both cases.
In May, Fleck pleaded guilty to one count each of second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison on the murder charge and three years on the armed criminal action charge, with the sentences to run consecutively for a total term of 23 years.
Vasquez is scheduled for a jury trial in February 2027.
