Man fatally shot in townhome on Kansas City’s East Side; police look for tips
A man died after being found with a gunshot wound Sunday evening inside a townhome on Kansas City’s East Side, a police spokesperson said.
Officers responded to the shooting about 8:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of Overton Avenue in the Riss Lake neighborhood, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez of the Kansas City Police Department.
Arriving officers were directed inside a townhome where they found an unresponsive man who had been shot. Officers rendered medical aid until emergency medical crews arrived and declared the victim deceased, Gonzalez said. The man’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
No preliminary information on what might have lead up to the shooting was available. An unknown male is believed to have left prior to police arriving. Police have not identified a suspect and no one was in custody.
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel responded to the scene and gathered evidence and spoke with witnesses.
The killing is Kansas City’s 73th homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. That compares with 89 by this time last year.
