Kansas City woman accused of killing 93-year-old in Northland home
A Kansas City woman is accused of murder after a 93-year-old woman was found dead in a Northland home, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Court records show Kelisha Reeves, 25, is charged with first-degree murder in Clay County Circuit Court. A judge set her bond at $1 million.
Prosecutor Zachary Thompson said on social media the charge came after detectives and prosecutors reviewed evidence from the police investigation.
“We allege that the defendant knowingly, after deliberation, caused the death of the victim by acts of homicidal violence between June 8th and June 9th at a home located on Briarcliff Road in Kansas City,” Thompson said.
Police find woman dead in Northland home
Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded just before 11:30 p.m. June 9 to the 3800 block of North Briarcliff Drive after receiving reports about a dead body.
There, investigators found a woman with “apparent bodily trauma,” according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a police spokesman. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
On June 10, a medical examiner ruled the woman’s death a homicide. Police have not yet publicly identified the woman who was killed.
“The consequences of this incident are devastating, and we extend our sincerest condolences to the victim’s family and all who knew and loved her,” Thompson said.
Thompson said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact KCPD homicide unit detectives at 816-234-5043, or the anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
A police probable cause statement filed in support of charges against Reeves Tuesday was not immediately available.
Reeves is due to appear in court 11 a.m. Wednesday for arraignment, court records show.
