Stealing suspect arrested after lengthy high-speed chase with KC-area police
Police arrested a man who was suspected of stealing from a storage facility in Kansas before leading officers on a high-speed chase across state lines Monday, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded around 3 p.m. after a caller reported seeing someone leave a storage facility in Hillsdale, Kansas. A deputy found the suspect’s vehicle near 233rd Street and Ridgeview Road.
According to a news release, the suspect vehicle fled as the deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop. A pursuit then ensued.
During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle allegedly reached nearly 90 mph as it traveled along highways and rural roads. The suspect drove through residential neighborhoods in Johnson County, Kansas, before crossing into Missouri and driving across Jackson and Cass Counties, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said multiple law enforcement agencies assisted throughout the pursuit, which ultimately ended in Raymore. The suspect’s vehicle eventually came to a stop in the Creekmoor neighborhood and was abandoned there by the driver.
Law enforcement began an extensive search involving deputies from Miami County, Kansas, and Cass County, Missouri; and K9 units and a helicopter from the Kansas City Police Department.
Later in the evening, law enforcement found the suspect and took him into custody.
A news release said the man is expected to face charges in both Kansas and Missouri in connection with the pursuit.
