An’Tyne Layton, 21, faces one count each of second-degree murder and armed criminal action for his alleged role in the November fatal shooting of 18-year-old Ke’Ron Brown, according to a news release from Jazzlyn Johnson, director of communications for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department were called to the 8200 block of President Court around 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 18, according to a probable cause statement in support of the charges filed against Layton.

There, investigators found Brown suffering from gunshot wounds in an apartment parking lot, the statement said. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Several witnesses identified Layton as the shooter, according to the probable cause statement. One witness told investigators Layton arranged the meeting with Brown over Instagram, where the men discussed a gun sale.

Surveillance footage from the area reportedly showed Brown and three individuals engaging in a physical altercation in the parking lot, during which Layton fired shots toward Brown, the statement said.

Layton is being held in the Jackson County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash-only bond, according to the jail’s inmate listing. No further court dates are set in his case.
