Man dead in KCK homicide, police say. Person of interest questioned

Update: Police identified the victim as 43-year-old Michael Meyer, Jr.

A man is dead after a homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, police say.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Kansas City, Kansas police officers were sent to the 300 block of North Valley Street, according to a press release from Officer Tykeasha Berry, spokesperson for the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.

A man was unresponsive inside the home. He was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to the press release.

Detectives interviewed a person of interest, Berry wrote.

When asked Sunday morning if this was a shooting and if the person of interest was in custody, Berry said, “I do not have any more information at this time.”

The killing is Kansas City, Kansas’ sixth homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. That compares to nine homicides reported by this time last year.
