30-teen disturbance at KC Walmart draws large multi-agency police response

Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies rushed to a Kansas City Walmart Supercenter after a “large scale disturbance” involving dozens of teens erupted Saturday night, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded to the disturbance Saturday night at the Walmart Supercenter at 11601 E. US 40 on Kansas City’s East Side, said Capt. Jake Becchina of the Kansas City Police Department.

Approximately 30 teens were involved in the “large scale disturbance,” prompting officers to request assistance. Officers from multiple agencies responded, and the crowd was dispersed, Becchina said. During the disturbance, one of the teens involved sprayed pepper spray.

Video shared on social media showed multiple officers arriving at the store, as well as a group of people in the parking lot near the store’s entrance.

Becchina said he had no reports on injuries, if any. An assault investigation is underway. Police did release approximate ages of those involved.

“The violence at our Kansas City, Missouri, facility was unacceptable. We appreciate police and first responders for acting quickly,” Kelly Hellbusch, director of Walmart Global Press Office, said in a statement.
