Motorcyclist dies after running off road in Kansas City, Kansas

A motorcyclist died in a crash after running off the road and striking a utility box Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, Kansas, a police spokesperson said.

The crash occurred about 12:15 p.m. Sunday near South 59th Lane and the Turner Diagonal, said Officer Tykeasha Berry of the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.

Responding officers found an unresponsive man at the crash, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcyclist left the road and struck a utility box, Berry said.

On Monday afternoon, police identified the man killed in the crash as Richard Andrew Hawthorne of Kansas City, Kansas. He died about a week before his 33rd birthday.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s traffic unit continues to investigate the crash.
