Man killed in south Kansas City shooting; police urge witnesses to come forward
Police are investigating a fatal overnight shooting after officers found a man unresponsive on a sidewalk in a south Kansas City neighborhood, a police spokesperson said.
Officers responded around 1:45 a.m. to the area of East 107th Street and Marsh Avenue in the Ruskin Hills neighborhood to assist Kansas City firefighters where they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.
Officers attempted to provide life-saving measures until an emergency medical crew arrived and declared the man dead, Gonzalez said. The man’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
The victim was identified Thursday afternoon as 19-year-old Tylen Bean, Gonzalez said.
There is no preliminary information indicating what led up to the shooting, Gonzalez said. No one was in custody, and no suspect has been identified.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene and collected evidence and witness statements.
The killing is Kansas City’s 28th homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star. That compares to 41 homicides reported by this time last year.
Detectives urged anyone with information about the homicide to call the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS (8477). Tips submitted anonymously to the hotline may be eligible for a reward of up to $25,000.
Tipsters may also call homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043.
